The Lladro Knocks on Wood collection revolves around the association of certain animals with fortune, and intends to wish good luck to those receiving one of these amulets. An animal inhabiting the bamboo forests of the whole of Central China for many centuries, the panda is the world symbol for the preservation of wildlife. The most beloved animal by the Chinese people, and currently an endangered species, it symbolizes power and courage. Some even believe that one of the mythical beasts described by Marco Polo on his travels through today's Sichuan, may well have been the panda.
