The Wescot

The Wescot is an excellent Department 56 building. I like the overall design, the material, and the lighting system.

The design of the Wescot Building is outstanding. I like the details of the building. The color of the shingles for the roof being a dark gray contrasts the off-white of the building itself. I also like the subtle contrast of the body of the building versus the balustrades. I wish I could place the building in such a way that I could see the front and the back. The back has an eye-catching design that I wish I could display also. The added accent of the red flags, (three more than what was shown in the photo) and the hanging red flag were a surprise.

I am also happy with the material used for this building. The Wescot is made with a ceramic material. It is heavier than the resins they have made some of their buildings out of, but I like the finish of ceramics more than resins. Using ceramic make the building ilook and feel more valuable.

I have mixed, but overall positive feelings about the lighting system. I appreciate the LED lights. Energy efficient, cooler, longer lasting, and probably benefits that I've left out. I also like the way that the lights are powered. Using a small cord similar to that you would use to charge your cell phone makes it easier to place the buildings on a large display without having to punch large holes in the platform/support. My only concern is that the lights are integrated into the building. If for some reason the lights go out, I do not know how to fix the problem. Because they're integrated into the building, you lose flexibility. When using a bulb, if you decide you want to go from warm to cool lights, it is as easy as changing a light bulb. With the integrated system, it is what it is.

The only minor issues that I had were with the flags. I am grateful that there are flags for the building. The photos of the building only shows one flag at the top, however there are three additional flags and a hanging banner not in the website photo. All those are positive. However, be careful when you put the flags in place. It is a very tight fit. I did not place them all the way in because I was concerned about possibly breaking them either during installation or removal. Also, Department 56 basically place the flags in the styrofoam without putting them in a bag first. I found that odd.

Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase, and if you decide to get this building, I believe you will like it too!

Great Detail

Great building, arrived in perfect condition. I really love the new light that is connected via the included USB C adaptor. Is anyone making these lights to retrofit in older buildings?
